Generals Die in Bed is certainly one of the great titles in Canadian War literature, and given its status, it’s strange there are no photographs of the author published anywhere in Canada. If you hammer his name into Google, you’ll get photos of Philip Child and John McCrae, but not the man himself.
This is a newspaper publicity shot dated June 17th, 1930. The blurb is as follows:
Charges Canadian Troops Looted French City During War
The startling charges that the troops of the Canadian Expeditionary Force stationed in France, looted the French city of Arras during the World War, are made by Charles Yale Harrison, above, in the book which he authored, “Generals Die in Bed.”
