Longstaff’s Ghosts of Vimy Ridge is a massive canvas, measuring 4.5′ x just less than 9′.  It is part of the House of Commons Collection in Ottawa.

  1. How could he produce that in 1931 when the memorial wasn’t dedicated until 1936?

    • You’ve a sharp eye! (I like readers like you). The Vimy Memorial was under construction in ’31, and had been since….I want to say ’25. Longstaff likely saw either construction at the mid-way point, models, drawings, or all three.
